Chief Operating Officer | Paris, France

Our client, a global law firm with a forward-thinking culture, is seeking a Chief Operating Officer with a minimum of 10+ years of experience in top law firms to join their Paris office.

As a key member of the senior management team, you will focus on implementing the firm’s strategic and operational administration. Your responsibilities will include steering and ensuring the smooth operation of the Paris office across legal, financial, and tax fields, compliance, certification, risk management, and other areas (e.g., structure, clients, third parties, insurance, real estate). You will coordinate support managers in their respective functions (Finance, Human Resources, IT, Marketing & BD, Legal Documentation, and General Services) and ensure the coherence of measures taken.

Your financial expertise, including budgeting and data analysis, will be crucial in planning and budgeting processes and assessing performance and operational metrics.

Areas of responsibility

  • Coordinate the Paris office’s Quality and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) approach.
  • Facilitate communication between various parties involved, providing upward and downward information flow.
  • Represent management as the firm’s ambassador internally and externally.
  • Implement the firm’s strategic orientations and operational administration.
  • Develop an action plan and provide regular reporting to the Managing Partner.
  • Oversee legal, financial, and tax-related operations, compliance, certification, and risk management for the Paris office.
  • Monitor financial activity and profitability indicators, coordinating with Europe management.
  • Coordinate support managers and ensure the coherence of measures taken in various functional areas.
  • Manage specific projects in collaboration with partners and support managers.
  • Foster smooth and regular communication among all parties involved.
  • Coordinate the Paris office’s Quality and CSR approach.
  • Manage relationships with key partners/vendors.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • In-depth knowledge of finance, taxation, law, and management.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and a keen interest in new technologies.
  • Experience in executive management and project coordination.
  • Change management experience.
  • MBA or Master’s degree in Finance, Business Development, or Business Administration.

Requirements:

  • Higher education in finance/economics/law/management.
  • 10 years of experience in an equivalent position or in administrative and financial management in an international environment. Experience working effectively with attorneys/Partners is a plus.
  • Ability to drive projects forward.
  • Fluency in French and English (spoken and written).

You will closely collaborate with partners in the Paris office and report to the Managing Partner.

Your leadership skills will be crucial in motivating and inspiring all members of the Paris office, fostering a culture of individual integrity, and attracting high-potential Associates and lateral Partners. As the law firm grows in complexity, professional business managers are essential for robust business operations, sound financial management, and delivering a world-class client experience.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and knowledge, with a bonus based on annual targets.
