The latest lateral moves and promotions from some of the biggest players on the legal market from the
1st February until the 8th February 2018.

 

Austria & Czech Republic

Schoenherr is announcing the promotion of Austria IP lawyer Michael Woller and Czech corporate/M&A expert Vladimír Čížek to contract partner. Owing to their exceptional legal expertise and business acumen, both long-term Schoenherr lawyers joined the ranks of contract partners as of 1 February 2018. 

Michael Woller joined Schoenherr in 2008, specialising in intellectual property as well as unfair competition law. He has a particular focus on new technology matters, international trademark strategy and advertising/unfair competition law – both non-contentious and litigation. He regularly advises and represents Austrian and international companies from the IT, pharma and consumer industries. Also, Michael coordinates Schoenherr’s IP practices across Central and Eastern Europe. 

Vladimír Čížek joined Schoenherr in 2013 focusing mainly on M&A transactions, corporate law matters, banking & finance and capital markets. In recent years, Vladimír has developed extensive expertise in payments services regulation – while advising EVO Payments International or Komerční banka, a.s. on building merchant acquiring alliances – and contributed to the establishment of the white collar crime task force in the Prague office.

Colombia – Bogota

DLA Piper announced that Juan Manuel de la Rosa, Felipe Quintero and José Miguel Mendoza, three leading corporate attorneys in Colombia, have joined DLA Piper Martinez Beltran as partners in the Bogotá, Colombia, office, boosting the firm’s Mergers and Acquisitions and Corporate practices. 

Quintero, who holds an LLM degree from Harvard University, joins the firm from Garrigues Abogados y Asesores Tributarios, where he was a partner and served as head of the M&A practice. He also worked as a foreign associate at the London office of Cravath, Swaine & Moore and is also a professor of business and financial contracts at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá.

Mendoza, who holds a doctoral degree from Oxford University, previously served as chief judge for Colombia’s corporate law court and is a professor of corporate law at Universidad de los Andes.

De la Rosa, who holds and LLM degree from Columbia University, joins from Baker McKenzie’s Bogotá office, where he was a partner and served as co-head of the Mergers and Acquisitions and Banking and Finance practice. He also worked as a foreign associate at the New York office of Chadbourne & Parke.

Germany – Frankfurt

Noerr is expanding its Banking & Finance practice group with Alexander Schilling, who joined Noerr’s Frankfurt office as an Associated Partner on 1 February. He comes to Noerr from Allen & Overy. Alexander specialises in advising on national and international investment grade financing, acquisition and leverage financing, as well as promissory note loans. He advises both banks and companies and has comprehensive experience in advising on financing aspects in connection with spin-offs and mergers.

Jones Day has announced that Ate van IJlzinga Veenstra and Quirine Eenhorst, two lawyers with deep experience in fund structuring, are joining the global law firm in Amsterdam as partners in the Firm’s Private Equity Practice. Mr. Van IJlzinga Veenstra and Ms. Eenhorst are joined by their fund structuring and fund services team consisting of Manuel Manders, Marierose Kouwenberg, and Harmen Wielens. Mr. Van IJlzinga Veenstra and Ms. Eenhorst focus on the structuring, documentation, and negotiation of various types of investment funds, joint ventures, club deals, managed accounts, investment management agreements, and various other investment structures and mandates.
