Australia – Melbourne 

Jones Day has announced that Michael Lishman will join its new Melbourne Office on August 1, 2018 as a partner in the Firm’s M&A Practice. Mr. Lishman joins the Firm from Gresham Partners Limited, a leading Australian investment bank, where he was a Managing Director in its Perth office. Chris Ahern, Jones Day’s Partner-in-Charge of Australia/Japan, said, “Michael is an outstanding lawyer and his arrival reflects our commitment to Australia and the importance we place on providing service to our clients on their most complex and significant matters. Mexico – Mexico City 

Mayer Brown announced that Raúl Fernández-Briseño, a leading transactional lawyer with deep experience in infrastructure, M&A, finance and restructuring transactions, has joined the firm as a partner in Mexico City, together with two associates. Mr. Fernández and his team join from the Mexico City office of White & Case. Mr. Fernández brings impressive experience in M&A transactions and financings, particularly in the telecommunications, aviation and private equity industries. He advises clients on shareholders arrangements, cross-border transactions and corporate disputes.

Sweden – Stockholm 

DLA Piper in Sweden has for the first time appointed a COO, Tobias Wåhlén, who will work alongside DLA Piper’s new Managing Partner in Sweden Peter Näslund to strengthen the firm’s position in the Swedish and Nordic markets. Tobias will take over operational responsibility for the Swedish office, enabling Peter Naslund to focus on developing the business offering for our clients. Tobias joins from Stockholm law firm Lindahl, where he had a similar role.

UK – London 

Dentons has further strengthened its UK Banking and Finance practice with the hire of leading project finance partner and Africa specialist Howard Barrie in London. Howard, who was previously a partner at Dentons for 19 years, re-joins the Firm after several years at Eversheds Sutherland. Howard specialises in projects and project finance, as well as structured trade finance and commodity finance. He advises national governments, multilateral and national development finance institutions, project developers and commercial banks on a wide range of projects across the African continent in particular, but also has worked in many other countries including Bangladesh, India, Azerbaijan, Lithuania, Russia, UK, Spain, France and the US.

Norton Rose Fulbright has announced that George Baptista, a highly regarded Latin America finance and capital markets lawyer, has joined as a partner in the global law firm’s New York office. Baptista, who joins from Mayer Brown, focuses his practice on Latin America and has extensive experience working with issuers and underwriters on international securities offerings. He also has experience in corporate, multilateral and infrastructure-related financings in the emerging markets.
