Our client, a leading independent law firm in Slovakia, advises domestic and international clients across key sectors of the market. The firm is seeking an experienced Chief Operating Officer to be based in its Bratislava office, working closely with the Managing Partners to support and drive the firm’s operational and strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities in Operations:
- Lead and manage local business support teams across core operational functions
- Review, refine, and implement best-practice operational processes, ensuring alignment with internal policies, procedures, and business continuity requirements
- Support and strengthen the firm’s approach to client service, marketing, business development, and practice support
- Oversee headcount planning, recruitment, career development, training, performance management, and compensation and benefits frameworks
- Partner with the Managing Partners and senior lawyers on the execution of operational and strategic plans
- Oversee IT and knowledge management initiatives and system rollouts
- Collaborate with Marketing & BD teams to ensure effective implementation of firmwide initiatives
- Ensure effective risk management, including regulatory, statutory, law society/bar compliance, internal policy adherence, and business continuity planning
Key Responsibilities in Finance:
- Report directly to the Managing Partners
- Monitor and analyze financial performance of the office
- Oversee billing and collections processes
- Prepare budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses
- Ensure compliance with local tax, accounting, and statutory requirements
- Monitor financial inventory, including accounts receivable and work in progress
Requirements:
- University degree in business, finance, or a related field
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a leading law firm, Big Four, or professional services environment
- Solid understanding of Slovak tax and accounting practices
- Proven leadership experience, with the ability to act as a trusted steward of a professional office environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence to engage effectively at partner level
- Demonstrated mentoring and motivational capabilities, fostering collaboration and teamwork
- Fluent Slovak and English
