Our client, a global law firm, seeks a NEW LAW GRAD, Trainee Lawyer, or Junior Associate to join their expanding Corporate/M&A team in Budapest focused on international work in 20+ Countries. M&A or transactional experience isn’t necessary, they will train. The role is to assist their mid-level lawyers with deal processes and general coordination and drafting tasks. It’s a great opportunity for someone to gain exposure to international M&A deals, work closely with lawyers across the firm’s network and develop generally with a view to qualifying in Hungary or elsewhere. The firm is flexible on legal background (civil vs common law) but place a premium on English (spoken/written), logical reasoning, reading comprehension, and organisational skills.

This client could consider the following types of candidates:

  • Hungarians or candidates who studied law in Hungary;
  • Hungarians who studied/worked abroad and want to return to Budapest;
  • Expatriates, interested in a move to Hungary. Ideally, they will have done their Erasmus year in law in Budapest or can demonstrate they have a connection to Budapest otherwise. Candidates who studied in US, England, Scotland, Ireland, Canadian, Australia or elsewhere in English would be a natural fit given almost all of the work will be done in English.

In all of the above cases we are targeting candidates with 6 to 24 months of experience, having graduated in 2023, 2024 and 2025.*(*2025 if they have internship experience from law school). This is essential in order to fit perfectly to the team as the firms has a recent hire 6 months ago, who is a newly qualified lawyer.

We are therefore looking for a trainee who is pre-bar. Ideally, the candidate would be at the junior end and not sitting bar exams for another 1.5 to 2 years.

You will start out being exposed to and coordinating work with lots of cross border components. Once you are more seasoned, you will be more actively supporting senior lawyers and partners in their creation of deal structures, designing acquisition or disposition programs and planning and implementing strategies for both acquirers and sellers in international transactions.

Requirements:

  • Experience in Corporate/M&A preferred, or other experience, gained at a reputable leading local or international law firm.
  • Law degree from a highly ranked law school.
  • Full professional proficiency in English (both spoken and written).
  • Excellent communication skills are essential.
  • Motivated, hard-working and highly ambitious.
  • Ability to work/live in the EU. The firm is not looking to relocate candidates from other continents who would not have the right to work in Hungary or EU.
