An opportunity has arisen with one of our law firm clients, to join their team in Sofia and to contribute to the strategy and vision creation, implementation, transformation, and operational excellence. The firm’s clients include numerous well-known multinationals and listed groups as well privately owned companies, high net worth individuals, start-ups, and fast growth companies. Their network is extensive. They are looking for a seasoned lawyer or next generation high potential leader to join their busy team to support the continued growth and expansion of the office. Your practice areas could include M&A/Corp/Commercial, Banking & Finance, Compliance, Employment, Projects/PPP, Disputes, Energy, TMT/IP, Real Estate or Healthcare. You can come solo or with your team members essential to your practice. 

The role

You will have overall responsibility for achieving the firm’s goals and growth plans in Bulgaria. You will be acting as the visionary, primary leader (and influencer) holding lawyers responsible for their specific goals, responsibilities, and deliverables (financials & quality). As well in this role, you will enjoy practicing law by advising on interesting and challenging matters. 

The successful lawyer will be energetic, enthusiastic, and keen to embrace the challenge of having a seat at the decision-making table. A high level of technical competence is expected as well as knowledge of the mechanics of legal work. You will be expected to supervise many matters and therefore organizational skills and the ability to take on significant levels of responsibility are key attributes. A desire to network and build relationships with clients is also important. Depending on your seniority, you are encouraged to come with a book of business or at minimum should demonstrate you are proficient in the development of relationships with clients.

Skills and experience

  • Must be a qualified Bulgarian lawyer.
  • At minimum, 12+  years of law firm experience.
  • A solid practitioner with a reputation in your practice area and ideally ranked in Legal500 or Chambers. 
  • An excellent understanding, comprehension, and ability to articulate law firm strategies.
  • Strong leadership and business development track record with portable business in the range required by the firm.
  • Strong client service skills.
  • Clear, articulate, and confident in written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to get involved in business development and networking activities.
  • IT and legal tech savvy would be a plus.
  • Ability to achieve goals through teamwork and collaboration.
  • Resilience, self-motivation, and a positive can-do attitude.
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to different projects/cultures.
